Journey to the Altar Part 2: Cooking Matters

Dear Sister,

I remember the moment I graduated from college. I had dreams of doing many things but the financial capital was not present for me to pursue those things. As a result, like many of my peers I moved back into my parents home.

A few months after graduating I committed my life to a year of community service with a national service program. And guess what, I couldn't afford to move out and get my own place because it was a stipend based opportunity.

While serving in the community I met an awesome young lady who just graduated from culinary school. We are really close to this day and she's one amazing sister-friend in my life. Any-who, I set a goal for the year, at that time it was a bold goal for me. I mean audacious! I set out to learn 10 new recipes and cooking techniques.

Let me tell you I could have cared less about cooking: 1) Because I was still living at home and my parents cooked. 2) Because I wanted to marry a man that cooked so I wouldn't have too. 3) I aspired to hire a chef, actually I still have this desire, lol.

I felt a nudge from God to learn 10 new healthy recipes. Only God knew why I needed to learn how to prepare healthy, gourmet meals on a budget. My sister-friend taught me her tips and tricks and made this experience so much fun that to this day she continues to shares new ways of preparing food with me and other food options.

I learned that you are not only cooking for your taste buds but for those who will be eating the meal. This helps you to be intentional about the seasonings you use, the method in which you prep the meal and how to plate the dish for best presentation.

Even if you are like me and want someone to cook for you. Learn to cook for yourself, cook for your parents and others who you are your village. So when your mate comes he can enjoy your fine dining experience.

I took everything she taught me and began inviting loved ones over my house for dinner. It was a delightful time to express my love by cooking for others and being confident in my cooking abilities. Build your confidence now and learn a new recipe or two. It will serve you now and in your future.

Nugget from this conversation: Cook meals & eat well ladies. I believe in you.

If you have a favorite recipe please share it in the comments. We could all use a new dish in our food selection.
