Looking Back to Move Forward

How many of us can honestly say we reflect daily? Or even see the purpose of reflection?

Taking a moment to pause before moving on to the next is apart of my DNA…truly it is. Today I want to share a piece of me with you.

We have reached the end of this year not any year but 2020! The year of a global pandemic, civil unrest caused by police involved killings, essential workers risking their lives to serve daily, “outside” closing down, and many other way trying times in 2020.

We could also look at this year as a way to get to know ourselves and those whom we live with on a new level, watching more movies, reading more books, getting creative with how we remain in contact with friends and family and LOTS (I mean LOTS) of virtual events.

But Guess what?

You are breathing.

You are alive (after much loss this year).

You made it to the end of the year.

For that I stand in gratitude.

Now take a deep breath with me.

This is a time of reflection. It’s December. There has been a lot out of our control. We have began to accept what we can do.

I want to encourage you to pause, grab your journal or hop on FaceTime to chat with a friend and think about:

  1. What were my accomplishments this year?

  2. What am I proud of this year?

  3. What challenges did I face this year?

  4. How did my accomplishments and challenges shifted my perspective on life?

  5. What do I want to experience in 2021?

  6. How will I build on the lessons learned in 2020 in the new year?

Bonus Question: What would you tell yourself in January of 2020 about this year? Based on what you learned about yourself this year.

In looking back to move forward is essential to growth and development. May you chose you today and pause to reflect.

In closing, your life is to be lived not put into a neat container to be controlled. I heard this in a movie I recently watched. What does this mean for you as you walk into 2021?

Feel free to share in the comments. Can’t wait to hear from you.
